  • wheat planting

I have never seen so much wheat going in the ground as I have this year in our area I believe people are going to plant to the seed supply runs out or they get every acre planted. Are other parts of the country doing the same thing.

I have a farm in Hawaii...I'm wondering if there is more money in WHEAT than in Pineapples??? Any advice??? [)]

      Just teasing. LOL!!!

Here in central Missouri finding seed wheat is getting harder and harder. Yes, a lot is going in. Now we'll see what the Good LORD gives us for weather? Winter Kill??? Average -- Bumper Harvest??? Will our WHEAT have_____9 LIVES____or only 8??? [?]

I have never seen so many old wheat drills come out of back sheds and put to service than I have this year. I know for a fact that a couple of drills from the 1950's came out of moth balls and were pressed into service. The amount of wheat that is following corn stock ground is the largest that I have ever seen as well. In our area the ground was so dry that much of the wheat did not emerge until it received rain three weeks later. Many of these stands at the present are in very good shape but we sure are low on ground water and if we don't keep getting some along this winter our soft red winter wheat may end up with very poor results. Never in my lifetime of being in this area have I seen wheat want for water for as a rule we are almost always too wet for wheat.

I would have to agree that there is more wheat planted here in mid mich than I can ever remember. I am guilty of increasing my acres by 50% also. And we don't have the advantage of all of you in the south of double cropping the same field into things like beans. We still see it as the most profitable and a whole lot cheaper than corn to grow.

I'd say our planted wheat acres are up somewhat here in SW Okla., but not significantly. Those of us who plant wheat are going to anyway. Whether for grain or cattle pasture, it's going in regardless. We're in dire need of a rain right now or we're not going to have much of either.
