All mass killers shooting into random crowds have Aspergers Syndrome?
I hate to say it because a few people close to me have AS including an uncle and some cousins and nephews. (Women rarely have it)
Not all people with AS are sociopaths, but all mass shooters appear to have AS.
So.... While the PC crowd won't let the fact that there is a connection between adult male tantrums and AS, I think a lot of people recognize it. Now I think I understand why urban people are more interested in gun control. They live closer to Rain Men and are exposed to one of them going postal at any given moment.
On the other hand rural folks are less likely to cross paths with an Asberger so we tend to not worry about them. Granted Ted Cazynski was rural and he had AS so there's that. Also I'd say a higher % of rural people have AS than urban, but just do to the sheer force of numbers you are more likely to get wracked when an urban-dwelling (or at least suburban) Asberger throws a tantrum.
Another thing to consider is that Asbergers who live in the country function better because society doesn't remind them they are odd as often.
Let's assume an honest study is published on the link between AS and mass shootings. Then what? What effect on gun sales, if any, to people with AS is just? What size clip should they get to buy? Does it matter? The Sandy Hook shooting Asberger stole his mom's guns.
I suppose it would matter what portion of Asbergers lose their minds? I have an uncle who no doubt has it and while he hasn't shot up a crowded theater like the Batman Asberger, he is definitely capable of mass violence. I've watched him do some really weird stuff when he throws a tantrum. Should he have a gun?
I need to think and sleep on this. Likely tomorrow am I will regret posting it.

Ted was the Uni-bomber, never used a gun, but he certainly was an enviro-wacko nut.
Okay, the first US incident of a student shooting at a school was in Jan. 1979. And it was a 16 year old female student who shot using a .22 but she didn't kill any students. Killed two adults, shooting across a street. She was high on PCP.
So now, we've had generations of young boys with Asbergers prior to the 1980s, and they didn't go bonkers, get a gun and shoot up schools. So Asbergers is most likely not the cause.
There is a correlation between the punk and drug use in these cases. Sometimes their prescribed drug, sometimes illegal drugs and sometimes a tank mix of both. Now if the punk is not balanced to begin with, a drug or several may just be the match to the gasoline.
Don't regret the posting. Gives folks something to think about instead of just blaming guns.......

100 years ago everybody was too busy with menial labor to dwell on their own oddness. Think about it... It was damn tough to get shunned when everyone is milking cows by hand. Putting in 16 hour days in the sweatshop didn't exactly expose one to all the things in life you miss out on when everybody else is in the same boat.
This must be a hard era to not be able to connect with people? Never in history has so much leisure time been available. I'd venture the average urban dweller spends 100 hours or more per week shooting the breeze with co-workers and friends. The gap between those who can't relate to people is so wide.
Did people used to pick on kids in school 60 years ago? I was in high school 20 years ago and that's all anybody did. There was TOO much spare time when I was in school. After school though it wasn't like that, it was long days without text msgs or email or Internet or Facebook or Agweb or cable tv. Now it seems life is perpetual high school were nobody has anything to do except determine who is cool and who is not. One endless popularity contest.
I'm not being critical of today's society at all. Just thinking about the likelihood of somebody with that nureological disorder losing their nut. The media makes some sort of fame out of them. The President gives you a speech interrupting the Packers telecast no less, all about this thing you did when you lost your nut.
Unless we go back to a laborious society, I think Rain Men are gonna nut out more and more. Also more people have it now. It must come from something during pregnancy? You can't just catch it later in life and it's a true nureological disorder. It's not their fault they have it. It's truly sad actually, because they are in a sort of personal jail. The kids don't know when to laugh,n they can't empathize with others pain or sorrow, but they just know they are missing out.
In my opinion the treatment is constant work. Keep em occupied. I think they need to stay busy or they degenerate. Also the idleness gives them time to reflect on their oddness. I can see how an Aspie (as they call themselves) who is an accountant would be very productive. Right up until the point they join some chat room. Then the malady hits them because they must do the same routine which means they can't leave the chat room.
My uncle has it. He was a professor of electronic engineering or some jitt. He had too much idle time and he went crazy and sorta wrecked the place. He was a defensive lineman for the Army traveling team so when he lost a nut a huge wake of destruction followed. It takes a lot to fire a tenured professor. Since then he normally has the security called on him when he shows up for a job interview. We don't know what to do with him. As a side note, the one place that sends someone with Asbergers over the edge is school. I think it's all the interaction with the catch-phrases and modern lingo, pop culture etc. it's like the humpback of Notre Dame working at a Vegas night club. Just a reminder of what you are not.
Still haven't decided where to go with this. Just thinking and writing.
I do not know what to think about Asbergers and guns. The one thing this makes me absolutly CERTAIN about is that it's a recipe for disaster to take guns away from people WITHOUT Asbergers!! For fv<king out loud its our only defense against one who loses his nut!Last edited by Pick-Six; 01-12-2013 at 05:07 AM.

Great point about how much different it is today, and how that makes society interactions all the more important. People often say we have this huge rise in mental illness... I always say... nope we just diagnose it now because we have the time and money to do so. As you stated, who worried about if their kid had learning problems when they never went to school or were done by 8th grade anyway? You never found out because they would just be off working anyway, hard manual labor and subsistence farming- often more solitary type, single minded work anyway. I'll bet the Amish aren't worried about the "rise" in AS, they are too busy to know or care.

Well DR, if you get to know some Amish, you will see a couple things. The Amish have a problem, because there is so few of them, when it comes to marrying so many of them are related, cousins bopping cousins. As livestock people we know what that can create. The Amish do take care of their own, even those who are retarded (Yup I know that is a politically incorrect term).
Another situation also occurs when couples have babies later in life, statistics show those babies are more prone to birth defects, mental retardation, etc. Not only do you see this in the Amish, who don't use birth control but also in our general society where women wait until they're past 35 to have children.
Back to the punks who murder, there's still that documented connection between presciption and/or illegal drug use by these killers. Drug use escalated in the late 1960s, both legal and illegal. Big Pharma, doctors, school staff, and parents are quick to calm down boys with Ritalin, etc.

pick-6: "Did people used to pick on kids in school 60 years ago? "
They sure did!
AND
you didn't go get something the equalize yourself with..play ground equipment worked wonders...jumping off the slipery slide
onto the culprit doing you grief did wonders knocking them down..for an instant.
jumping off swinging swings , making yourself a torpedo into the culprit..knocked a couple teeth loose too..
BUT most of all, going home and knowing if you cheated in any of the activities at school, or threw
a sh i t fit to get your way, the hand would be
applied the the back side for adjustment, until you could do it right.
(I was one of the smaller sized kids through much of my grade and first half of high school)
