    Farm Program?

    I need a memory refresher.

With the looming fiscal cliff and a bunch of buffons in charge, both Reps and Dems who can't make a decision to save themselves. What becomes of the non exsistent farm program? Is it extended again? Is there a date they have to have something decided?

I assume there is no changes in federal crop Ins. seeing how Icf was posting about the huge tax payer contribution to his premium.

I want 100% of the Farm Program gone, provided the 75% of it that is SNAP disappears as well. No transferring SNAP to some other govt. dept. Make it all gone.

Heres a couple paragraphs out of the ASA's November Bean Beat.

With each of these programs comes a separate authorization for a distinct period of time; some run the full five years of the bill, some are authorized for longer, some shorter. Knowing this, it becomes apparent that all farm pro-grams did not simply expire at the end of September. Rather, they will expire over time in the absence of reauthorization. Make no mistake—this will be terribly damaging to the Nation’s soy-bean farmers. Over the coming months, this scenario will repeat for other programs within the farm bill, increasing uncertainty for our farmers, who will have to navigate a patchwork of expiring programs and regulations, and face the possibility of not being able to obtain operating loans from the lenders. The answer to this challenge must be for Washington to overcome the partisan gridlock.

Sounds pretty bleak. Alot of life changing decisions have been made regarding land purchases and rental agreements based on the currently expired farm bill whether we like to think so or not. I too would like see an end to Federally insured, subsidized high risk farming.

I think they should renew it, of course for selfish reasons. I got out of the government program so I did not have to wait three years for them to start an audit on a whim of my operations. The time periods have expired and the only government program I participate in is the Federal Crop Insurance.

The problem I have, is I do not think conservation compliance should be tied to crop insurance participation. It hat happens we who shucked the program and went without the Direct Payment et.al., are being sucked right back into what we left. This crop insurance requirement is another attempt by the Sierra Club et.al. to create a property right in farmland in this country. Soon they will be determining rules preventing the hunting of wildlife on farms getting crop insurance. I say let it expire, or extend it. I understand Dairymen have a much different view of the bill and need it passed. But I do not make my money squeezing teats. Adios Amigos. John

When anyone bases their decisions upon govt., they get no sympathy from me. Lie down with dogs, don't be surprised at getting fleas.

We can farm without the govt.

Yes, I get around $80,000 or so from the taxpayer to pay my crop insurance. But there are around 100,000 Iowa farmers and according to records 95,000 out of the 100,000 Iowa farmers get a Crop Insurance Subsidy. So whatever you call me for getting one also goes to Faust too since he takes Crop Insurance and the other 95,000 Iowa farmers too. So don't finger me, finger practically every farmer in Iowa since the sign-up rate in Iowa is 95%.

The difference between you and the other 95,000 Iowa farmers is they aren't bragging about how much gov money they get then brag about being worth tens of millions of dollars. Most BTO I now have a knack for keeping their mouths shut about their private business. That's another thing that makes you different that the other 95,000.

I have yet to read or hear Faust or any other IA farmers bragging about it in the Des Moines Register and this forum over and over again. Pizzin people off about it. Farmers and non farmers.

I'm sure most farmers are like me and have never figured out what the tax payer share is, or do they care, were just dam glad it's available if we choose to use it.

If you want to keep it shut the f###k up about it.

Guess I have nothing to hide, I am not ashamed to take a goverment hand out of $43/acre in a crop insurance subsidy. For Gods Sake, it's only 19 cents a bushel. Who cares, 19 cents a bushel is peanuts. You know that and I know that.
