An 18-year-old man has been charged with assault after he punched a bus driver on Monday, authorities said.
The Jackson County prosecutor’s office said Michael Cubie was charged with assault with intent to commit bus hijacking, a felony. He also faces a midemeanor third-degree assault charge in connection with the case.
The driver went to a hospital with a cut on his lip.
Last Monday at about 9 p.m., witnesses said, the 54-year-old driver picked up Cubie and several young friends at a stop at 39th Street and Indiana. The group did not pay their fares. When the driver ordered them off the bus, police said Cubie punched the driver in the face, knocking him unconscious while he was behind the wheel of the bus
